In the mean time....

We haven't melted... yet....

By all measures, we should have melted by now.

We even spent some time outside.

I'm pretty sure Foster would melt first.

Love the outfit, don't you?

You can also tell from the state of our house that we spent quite a good deal of time inside, away from the heat.

Don't worry... we've recovered from tropical storm Kate.

Playing in the shade.

Lots of swinging to keep Kate cool.

The highlight of Kate's weekend? The dollhouse. The toilet flushes, the doorbell rings, the tub splashes, the washer and dryer make noises. She must have played with it (and narrated) for at least an hour.

Sweet Dreams

I have been meaning to do a post about sleeping Kate. She likes to sleep with blankets covering her face, which breaks Rule #1 of preventing SIDS. The real problem is that she likes to sleep in the dark. Yeah, I know, that's pretty maverick. It also makes for pretty low quality pictures that don't do her sleep positions any justice. See?

And I find myself wondering if she dreams and what she dreams about. Apparently, so did this mom. See for yourself by clicking HERE. I promise, you won't be disappointed!!

Maybe you haven't noticed...

That we go to the zoo almost every time I have a day off! And am I going to keep boring you to tears with all of the zoo pictures. Yep! Looks like I am.

Was it hot? Oh, yeah.

Did we use the Carousel as an excuse to cool off? You bet!

Did we use also use the heat as an excuse to eat ice cream? Perhaps.

Did it stop us from sliding on the big "slide-board?" Absolutely not!

You do know why we went to the zoo, right? The Toucans didn't disappoint. We may have even snagged one on the way out.

If the Shoe Fits

I'm in love with a pair of shoes, and they aren't even mine.

Weekend

The weekend seemed long. Ok, maybe today just seemed long. Here's what we did to occupy the time.

Went to the park. We were on a mission to find a seesaw. Mission remains unaccomplished.

I discovered the best way to let a 19 month old "paint." Remember those books that had the watercolors already on the page? Add water and voila!

This led to a MAJOR toddler meltdown. She's never pitched a fit quite like that one. To calm her down, she watched a video on youtube about a toucan. And when it stopped? She screamed. So we watched it a LOT.

And then today... Kate head-bumped her little table.

What...

...have we been up to the past few days?

Snacking with Cats.

More swimming.

Playing in mud puddles (yes, no mud).

Ballet Baby

Today Kate was all about the tutu. Just like her favorite book - "Ballet Kitty." She wore it to Starbucks with a green top that hardly matched. But she was a cutie. Here she is in the front yard picking my flowers in her tutu.

And here are a few fun pictures from our road trip to Rome, GA. Don was on business and I tagged along. We do love exploring new places!

They take their similarities to Rome, Italy pretty seriously. This statue is from Italy, I guess because they share the same name and both have 7 hills. Just in case you didn't take Latin and learn all this stuff. That's Romulus and his twin brother Remus, who were raised by a She-wolf (The Capitoline Wolf is a very famous statue). Then Romulus killed Remus and founded Rome. Or something like that (it has been 20 years - yikes!).

At the top of the hill that's downtown, there is a great park with a clock tower. Beautiful and quiet. I sat a few minutes under a tree.

A view from the park.

I found this great little bakery downtown to have a croissant and cappuccino.

It was awfully tempting not to have one of these yummy cupcakes.

Tree-lined downtown streets.

A nice trip with the best guacamole EVER at Rosa Mexicano on the way home (thanks Ashleigh for introducing me to it!!!).

Vital Statistics

Today was Kate's 18 month well checkup.

She did GREAT, although she did set the bar very low during our last visit. We prepared for this trip by buying a doctor's kit. We practiced taking her (and various dolls' and animals') blood pressure and listening to her heartbeat. We used the thermometer and looked in her ears and in her mouth. One thing I've learned about Kate is that if you tell her ahead of time what is going on, she's much more likely to go along with you. We took her doctor's kit along. She sat quietly for the doctor to listen to her heart (this may have been the first time he's ever actually been able to hear it). She let him look in her ears. She stuck her tongue out for him, but he did have to pry her mouth open to look in. And she gave him a shot. Yes, she screamed when she got her 3 vaccines, but was over it as soon as she saw the band aids. No more shots until she's 4 - hooray! Ok, I lied. Flu vaccine in September.

Stats on our baby girl?

22.8 lbs (23rd percentile)
33.5 inches tall (93rd percentile) - 2.5 inches in 3 months - Holy Cow!
18.75 inch head circumference (80th percentile)

Sweet Success!

That's right! We found Winnie the Pooh (or Winnie Pooh as Kate likes to call him). Walmart. A place that I would rather avoid. Ah, the things we do for our children.

Here's Winnie having some tea.

And of course, since Winnie was so darned hard to find in the first place, I wasn't going to just stop at the huggable version. We also got a set of Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger, very similar to a Dora set I blogged about before. I found Kate playing with them at the dining room table.

And now, it's time for me to go have a bowl of ice cream and finish up a grant!

Ice Cream!

After hours of unsuccessfully shopping for a Winnie the Pooh, I asked Kate if she wanted some ice cream instead. Must have, because she proceeded to say "ice cream!" for the next 30 minutes. She even told the checkout lady "ice cream!" in exasperation. As in.. hey lady, give me back my ice cream! So we get to the car and she just couldn't wait.

All of this ice cream talk makes me hungry. Maybe I'll have a scoop of strawberry with chocolate chips before bed... Mmmmmmm
